about
VITA
After earning her degree from the State Acadamy for Photographic Design in munich(1989),
manu theobald worked in Madrid as a photographers assistant.
She returned to munich to open her own studiocomunity ,where for the next years she focused
on fashion and commercial photography.
In 1996 she recaptured her original motivation in pursuing a career in photography
- to tell stories in order to make life´s pictures tangible, experiential,
to explore one´s attitude to oneself and to Other.
She then traded her static studio work within the context of a larger team
for the adventure of an independent photographer.
She traded her synthetic bulbs for daylight.
She began to specialize in portrait, travel , and documentary photography.
Her assignments by renowned magazines ,as merian,adac-reisemagazin,elle,vogue,brigitte,
took her to Africa,Asia and throughout most of Europe.
She developed a highly personalized approach to her work, dedicating more and more time
to the deeper exploration of select themes in an attempt to create truly holistic photographic works.
Her camera is a research tool she uses to discover inconspicuous beauty.
Many of her projects deal specifically with issues of transformation and innovation.
She´s working consistently with institutions serving culture, education, social projects and technology.
manu theobald lives with her husband and two children in Munich.
